Reviews – The Great British Screen Extravaganza
Great British Screen Extravaganza, The Royal Festival Hall, 21-Sep-1996
by Music From the Movies
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of British cinema the music of seven composers was showcased at a Screen Extravaganza concert on Saturday 21st September 1996 at the Royal Festival Hall. The music was performed by the National Symphony Orchestra and the concert was presented by actor Nigel Havers. The concert was produced by Rewind Productions Ltd.
Part 1 of the concert concluded with three pieces conducted by Debbie Wiseman. Her exquisite theme from Haunted was given a powerful full orchestral treatment whilst her music from Tom and Viv had a real taste of melodrama and unashamed romance in the style of the ‘golden age’ scores of Steiner and Rozsa. Her award-winning theme from The Good Guys worked well in an extended concert hall setting. All three selections were extremely well played.
